Why "Balanced Training" is more effective then "Purely Positive"

Updated: Nov 8, 2022

The WABDT method is based on the philosophy that dogs are social animals that crave structure and leadership. This type of training uses a combination of positive reinforcement and behavior modification to teach dogs good habits while also correcting bad ones.

WABDT is effective because it provides dogs with a clear set of rules and expectations to follow. It also uses all 4 quadrants of operant conditioning, which helps dogs learn more quickly and retain information better. In contrast, purely positive dog training, relies solely on rewards and doesn't address bad behavior directly. This can lead to problems down the road as dogs are only being shown rewards for desired behaviors and the omission of rewards for negative behaviors. This Ideology is proven to not work as effectively as Being balanced with your training and utilizing all 4 quadrants of operant Conditioning. The 4 Quadrants are: Positive Punishment, Positive Reinforcement, Negative Punishment, Negative Reinforcement.

Overall, Balanced training is a more complete and effective approach to dog training that can provide better results in the long run. It's important to consult with a qualified trainer before getting started, however, as this method can be difficult to execute correctly without professional help.

Be sure too look for one of our members that are proudly displaying our Official seal WABDT. Only WABDT members have been taught to use our methods and are experienced in doing so. WABDT is the ONLY balanced dog training method that is evidence based, using the latest research in learning theory, ethology and behavior change to produce high quality trainers with successful long term results for their clients. WABDT is a set method with definable steps, it is not a "style" of training where the trainer can make up their own rules as they go along. WABDT is constantly evolving as we learn more about how dogs learn, think and behave so that we can continue to provide the best possible service to our clients.
